Love this ending! This was exactly what I was hoping for in the ending of this series. I figured they would make everyone equal somehow whether that was getting rid of all the powers or making everyone prodigies.
I'm glad that it ended up being the latter because I was always so sad whenever someone lost their powers to Agent N.
I also loved watching Nova continue to struggle with her morality vs her loyalty to her make-shift family. And her and Adrian are so cute but I wish there had been a little more angst between them. I wish they had more interactions when Nova was in prison to give us those fights I had been waiting for. It seemed like when he finally realized for sure that she was Nightmare, he forgave her for everything right away, mostly because he had found out who killed his mom by that point, but still.
That being said, there were a few issues I had with this book. First of all, it really felt like this could have been two separate books. I had listened to 11 hours and there had been a huge fight breaking Ace out of prison and some of the renegades had lost their powers. It felt like a great place to end the book but I looked at the time left and I saw that it still had 5 hours! That's definitely enough time for a whole fourth book and having the final battle there. It just made the pacing a little weird to me and I kept expecting it to end after that battle but it didn't.
Finally, that epilogue was... weird. It was mostly unnecessary. I can see why some people thought it opened things up for a spin-off series, but I don't think that's what it was trying to do. I think it was trying to be more philosophical and a commentary on our real world and the greed and violence we deal with
even though everyone is equal just like they ended up being in the book. When everyone's physical capability is the same, it doesn't automatically mean everyone is going to be safe.
And I think that's a great commentary to have for this book, but I don't think it really worked with this epilogue. It left us with more questions than what we had at the beginning and, in my opinion, could have been done differently or just left off completely.
I still really enjoyed this book though and the series as a whole. I think I'll always love reading Meyer's fantasy books. The way she writes found families is just perfect and I love it so much.
