The Falconer
by Elizabeth May
Quite inventive mix of steam punk fantasy. The writing was at times highly engaging but also had slabs that were not such a joy to read. Generally good writing though and an easy read.
The female lead is strong, effective, creative and naturally conflicted snaps flawed. These last two add interest and of course fallibility. Other characters are also interesting.
I was annoyed at the cliff hanger ending. I think it is fairer to finish a book with at least some parts of the story line having satisfying outcomes, which does not happen here. Got to go - I'm off to see what happens in book 2
