The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

2.0

I need to get off the book side of instagram because the influencers are lying. I have no idea why they liked this book.

First, 30 year old Nora was written like an angsty 15 year old. Every lesson she learned could have been an inspiring tumblr post 10 years ago, and I do not mean this in a good way. The ending was the most predictable and boring ending I've ever read, complete with- you guessed it- more cheesy tumblr-worthy quotes.

My middle school english teacher used to say "show don't tell" to encourage more immersive writing. Haig could work on this as I felt like I was just being told a story and felt no connection to Nora or any of the lives she lived.

The concept was interesting, but the execution wasn't there. This should be marketed YA as it might appeal more to high schoolers, but even then I really cannot recommend it.
