And Then I Woke Up by Malcolm Devlin
4.0

The ideas were so good, I think the writing style and some choices took away from it for me a little & made it not a 5. Hard to get into because there wasn’t a lot of description to ground us, just lots of thoughts and things mentioned within that but i had a really hard time initially knowing who the characters were and where they were and what was happening. The what was happening was clearly muddled for obvious reasons but the other two should have been clearer. Also the choice at the end to make him remorse with guilt and not believing he deserves forgiveness, it’s too martyr-y, it doesn’t feel like a real person to me. I think real people defend the choices they make and would be defensive that it was the right thing to do and think they deserve salvation and forgiveness and comfort because I think most people believe that. So that ruined the end for me a little. But the general concept really good and some of the questions it raised/asked really good. Maybe just I wanted a little more concreteness. Still impressive
