The Athena Project by Brad Thor

3.0

Well, first, I liked the story although it was somewhat simplistic. Mustache twirling villains and the like. It was sort of like read James Bond. Very clearly delineated heroes and bad guys. You never really get a flavor for WHY the bad guys are trying to overthrow the government and destroy the country, just that they are.

Now the bad part. This story involves a specialized force of Delta operatives that are all female. The problem is that their characters and dialogues are all written by a guy. So, if I'm to believe the way they're written, all women Delta operatives can think about is sex, food and alcohol. They're terribly one dimensional and the author clearly has no idea how women relate to one another even in casual banter. And these are supposed to be Delta operatives. You never hear them argue or discuss tactics, strategies, weapons or other hardware. Just didn't seem that realistic to me. So, 3 stars for a decent, light fantasy that's easy to listen to in the car.
