Everyone in This Room Will Someday Be Dead by Emily Austin

5.0

This book, ouch. It hurt, but in the best way. It’s the opposite of escapism, like, when did Austin go inside my head and listen to my intrusive thoughts!? If you’ve ever felt lonely, you’ll feel seen.

The accuracy and realistic portrayal of mental health is astounding. Austin is able to create these vivid, life like scenes that readers think no way this actually happens, but it does. And it’s real, yet cuts deep.

The world in this book is on-fire, and the real world is on-fire too, but how can this book be so beautiful? And sad? And show empathy towards humans yet call them out in so many ways? This book is truly unparalleled and I want everyone to read it. BUT! You have to be in the correct headspace for it.

Do you ever just feel stuck? Or living some kind of lie but it makes sense? And you care about people more than yourself yet you’re lonely surrounded by so many people? That’s this book.

Or, to really try and hook you to read this in joke form: A gay atheist walks into a Catholic Church because she needs a job… (you’ll have to read the book for the punch line).

Perhaps a chaotic review, but this book is perfect.
