Life Worth Living: A Guide to What Matters Most by Miroslav Volf, Ryan McAnnally-Linz, Matthew Croasmun
I find it hard to review this. The book attempts to give the reader the experience of a Yale course on philosophy and religion, pushing students to articulate their core values and align their actions and choices with what they believe matter most.
The intelligence and good intentions of the authors are clear on every page—but they are covering centuries of deep thought very quickly and summarizing the work of giants as well as religious traditions in just a few paragraphs. I’m so curious what the addition reading is for the course.
I cannot fathom having read the book without the accompanying podcast series from “Kelly Corrigan Wonders.” Kelly, Kate Bowler and Claire Danes. They brought the book down to earth, made it relevant, funny and challenging in a completely different way.
I’m so glad I read it. It has me eager to read more by some of the authors referenced and has led to great conversations with the women with whom I read it. Kelly Corrigan even joined us for our final discussion! That alone is enough to make this a favorite read of the year!
