A beautifully written modern spin on the myth of Persephone, Fruit of the Dead captures the myth's dreamy, fatalistic quality without dipping into the supernatural. Thatw way, it truly distills the essence of the story to not only adapt it to a modern setting, but to modern sensibilities and challenges, making it almost relatable. The author imbues the while narrative with the heady, dizziness of grief, obsession, intoxication.
