The Wolf and the Witch by Charissa Weaks
3.0

The author uses way too much modern, casual, and juvenile language. It really kills the immersion and makes me feel like I’m reading contemporary romance or magical realism/modern world fantasy. Her word choice has felt too modern/casual to me since book one, but it was extra pronounced in this one.

As far as advancing the overall plot, this novella did make some important and interesting steps forward, but it was mostly focused on building the working and romantic relationship between Nephele and Neri. A lot of action happens off page and I hope it’s expanded upon in the next full length book.

Overall, I did find their banter and sexual tension fun to read. The first smutty scene was much hotter than I expected, but the second one (where he uses his god abilities to…ahem…triple effect) felt a bit too kinky too quickly. I’m not sure how she’s able to walk the next day, frankly (no prep!?!?
