The Brothers Hawthorne
by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
I have way too many thoughts on this book.
The first half gave me so much anxiety that I DRAAAAAAAAAAAAGED my feet getting through it. But once I reached the halfway point and we were deep into the puzzles and mysteries (much more like the trilogy) I loved it.
Reading from Grayson's and Jameson's POV was heartbreaking. I cannot hear anything their grandfather said without feeling like he emotionally and psychology abused these boys.
BUT
Oh the brother bond is SO beautiful and makes me want to cry!
I could do without ever reading Eve's name again. And I don't love the manipulation that the ending of the book leaves possible.
Definitely felt darker and more "adult" than the trilogy did.
