My Friends by Fredrik Backman
5.0
Nobody does funny-sad like Backman. I adored this. By like 5 minutes in I was crying and laughing and then that continued for the whole novel. When homeless teen Louisa breaks into an art auction in order to see her favorite painting in person, she could never imagine that she’d meet the artist (in an alley behind the auction, while running from authorities who think she was there to vandalize the painting). And when the artist passes away the next day, Louisa could never have foreseen he’d leave the painting to her. Now Louisa’s got a priceless painting and no idea what to do with it except follow the man who gave it to her, the artist’s best friend to learn the story of the artist and the painting. As unpredictable as real life, the story is fantastically human, full of love and heartbreak and friendship. Rarely do I ever see a book that celebrates or captures true friendship the way this book does. Possibly my new favorite Frederik Backman book.
