Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates
5.0

I'm not a huge non-fiction person but I found Between the World and Me very intellectually stimulating. I think it covers a lot of things that I sort of already knew but hadn't really formed into coherent thoughts in my mind. The focus on Black bodies and how white Americans maintain the American dream through the exploitation and abuse of Black American bodies and the concept that there is no supremacy without finding a group to put under you are both incredibly eye-opening facts of how America works. It feels like such a basic observation of American society that I'm tempted to give this four stars but A) I know it's not obvious to everyone and B) Coates puts it out there so eloquently and obviously that it gets bumped up to five stars.
