Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare

5.0

Oh my god, what do I say.. I hate it I hate it I hate it I hate it so so so so much. And yet I could read this book again and again a thousand times.

The characters are just TOO BEAUTIFUL. James and Lucie and Cordelia and Matthew and Cristopher and Alastair and Jesse and ANNA LIGHTWOOD and of course our original TID fam. Everyone's a beautiful mess and I love them so so so much. Probablyy favourite generation and team of shadowhunters EVER.

I think the plot was alright but the way the characters handle it just make it so much more interesting!

I was actually alright with James and Grace being a thing at the start. It kind of bothered me how Cassandra Clare always needs the female lead character to end up with the person she loves. And yeah, we all love a happy ending. But when I saw that Cordelia loved James and he didn't love her back, I was actually really intrigued to see what would happen. Because it would be so, so amazing to see how Cordelia gets over James not loving her back, how she deals with her heartbreak and then builds herself in a way that she doesnt need him. Because we don't always get back the love we give, and I really really wanted Cordelia to be an idol for everyone. But alas, no. James and Cordelia are so meant to be but the ANGST.

And yeah, I do hate Grace but I just thought the "forbidden love" between them was so different and beautiful. Until she asked him to leave EVERYTHING for her and at that point I just wanted to go into the book and chuck her out of it.

The thing I am SOOOO angry about is nobody cares about Matthew?? Nobody?? Like he's been through so so so much and he's clearly *dying* and nobody does anything? I know James is a bit preoccupied but he's honestly being such a bad parabatai! Matthew's always there for him, no matter what and James doesn't even realise that Matthew has a secret which is slowly tearing him apart from guilt? Like how????

And I've grown to love Alastair!! I know what he did to Matthew and how much disaster is resulted in and I truly hated Alastair in Ghosts of the Shadow Market. But now I just want the others to forgive him and let him live in peace. Ughh I love all "the good in the bad" and "the bad in the good" stories!!!!!!

There are TONS of complications bit the fact that I have a notes section on my phone filled with all the quotes I loved from the book and that contains 15,000 words which might as well be a book of its own just tells me how much I adore this book.

Just take it, take it, all the stars for you. I still hate you.

Now what do we do till Chain of Iron? You tell me
