wow….i truly cannot find words to express how much i adored this book. as a classics beginner this was super accessible and easy to read but it was also so Beautifully written. i highlighted the shit out of this book because oscar wilde’s prose is just exceptional. i see a lot of reviews saying that the middle of the book was extremely tedious but i was hooked the entire time! i couldnt get enough.
the portrayal of the wealthy life of Londoners in the nineteenth century was enough to keep me interested and then to add such captivating characters with such striking differences made me fall in love. it was such an interesting take on human nature itself - sin, morality/conscience, the ugly side of beauty. i could probably write a million essays on this book with every aspect and every possible subliminal message ingrained into the writing. i find the theory that harry represents the devil to be so interesting. i loved seeing what he had to say as he had a truly controversial opinion about every little thing. as i was reading i bought the uncensored version that was published and am looking forward to reading that one and comparing!
