A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara
2.0
challenging dark sad tense slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

The frequency and detail with which the author describes grotesqueries such as abuse, self harm and pedophilia are truly horrific. Nothing that I got out of this book was worth it to have to put myself through those MANY passages. I'm honestly disgusted with the author, who seemingly found pleasure in describing these acts in increasingly disturbing ways.

If you are looking for a book about friendship, there are plenty of other books. If you are looking for a book that deals with mental illness, there are plenty of other books. If you are looking for a book that discusses the meaning of life, there are plenty of other books.

Do yourself a favor and find a different book.
