The Iliad (Amazonclassics Edition)
by Homer
My second time reading The Iliad, although Goodreads says it's my third. I still can't get over how gruesome it is. Gutting people, poking out eyeballs, throwing spears through groins... it's pretty gory.
Hector would have to be my favorite character out of The Iliad. Odysseus wasn't really admirable, and I don't find him even more so in The Odyssey, although I do feel more sympathy for him. I also really liked Diomedes.
I also think that it's a pretty powerful message that one of the greatest 'war-epics' ends with a father grieving and burying his son. War is not so admirable as we may want to pretend it is.
