Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
by J.K. Rowling
This is my least favorite Harry Potter book. That means, I still love it.
What I love:
- the first chapter. Love it when the p.o.v. is from other people. Makes things exciting
- the triwizard tournament. The challenges. Interesting and exciting.
- the exchange students. This is such a cool idea. It mixes the whole dynamic up a little and also is a great way of showing how the magic system works, instead of just telling. Of course, Harry could have just been told that students from France go to a different school. Of course the tournament could have been just Hogwarts students. But what would be the fun in that? This was just really cool. It also made the world seem bigger. Before, we only saw Great Britain as part of the Wizard world. Now, we know there is more. There is wizards everywhere. That has the effect that we know there is more at stake when Voldemort takes over the world. Now, it is a bigger picture.
What I disliked:
- The major plothole. Why would Barty Crouch Jr. not use a portkey to bring Harry to Voldemort the way a normal person would? He could have tricked him by making the portkey a pen, dropping it and asking him to pick it up. Ooops you're in front of Voldemort now. He could have just asked him to hold any object, the boy trusted him, thought he was just a teacher. He could have just grabbed him, Harry Potter only knows one spell. He could have done so many things. WHY would he go through so much trouble? It makes no sense.
Honestly that's the only reason it's my least favorite one. That one plothole is so stupid and makes the main storyline so stupid and I hate that.
But everything else is great and really, really love Fleur Delaceur
