So I discovered this book based off a tiktok recommendation for a non surprise pregnancy trope book. If there is one thing about me as a reader, 1. I do not like surprise pregnancy (ESPECIALLY if they use the baby as a plot device to essentially force the couple to stay together) and 2. Second chance romance is not one of my top tier reading tropes.

But this book actually knocked it out of the park for me! I looooooved how we see Maria and Remy learn how to take care of a baby together and grow to love her as their own even though she is not “biologically” theirs. It was also very realistic in terms of anxiety over a new baby and wondering if you’re being a good parent or not. Remy was *chef’s kiss* he is def one of my top favorite male mc’s ever. He is so protective, caring, supportive, and family focused. The rekindling of Maria and Remy’s romance was SO FREAKING SWEET. And the smexy scenes were HOT. In all honesty it was a bit of a “slow-burn” for them to the moment where they finally come together as a couple and I thought it was a perfect way to handle their relationship.

I also loved the flashbacks between their past relationship and present. We see their backstory as high school sweethearts.

There were definitely some parts where it got a little repetitive. Particularly with Maria’s insecurities and inner monologue moments but it’s understandable to see where she is coming from.

The part where Maria confronted her grief over her sister and brother-in-law made me cry.

This book was great. And I definitely read the series in the wrong order because this was my first book of this series that I read. Now I have to go back and read the other brothers’ books now.
