Aru Shah and the End of Time by Roshani Chokshi
4.0

SUCH A SWEET BOOK!! could not help but compare some parts of it to uncle rick's books (because I'm reading trials of apollo at the same time) but let's be honest, this book has a completely different feel and colour than the percy jackson books or any of the other follow-up series.

things I liked:

- aru is a middle-schooler. she thinks like one, she talks like one, she acts like one. I thought this was pretty well done. she made mistakes but she genuinely tried to make up for them.
- the worldbuilding?? was incredibly colourful. I loved how refreshing and vivid the different parts of their journey were (especially the night bazaar and the palace!)
- concept is !! great!! (five female pandavas who are also heroes??? and soul sisters??????? WHAT an idea.)
- aru is such a smol nerd and I love her (I mean she's mostly in spiderman pajamas for most of the book. I liked her immediately.)
- the friendship between aru and mini was the CUTEST THING and boo was fabulous. (I kept thinking of seungkwan whenever boo appeared because seventeen is having their comeback soon omg)
- GOOD EMPHASIS on FAMILY and FRIENDS.
- all in all a wholesome and lovely book. the only complaint I have (it isn't even a complaint, just a personal pet peeve): a lot of the scenes are written in passive voice. it didn't bother me a lot until it was used in points of action. I still kind of twitchy when I read things in passive voice because of my essay-writing rubrics from grade 10 english class... otherwise this is a fantastic start to a series. and I am SO looking forward to book 2 !!
