Nightwing, Vol. 1: Leaping into the Light
by Tom Taylor
Leaning towards 3.5. I’m glad I read this book. I think it was just the introduction to Nightwing that I needed. The art was wonderful and Nightwing in motion/the acrobatics were great. I still feel like I’m at the beginning of understanding all the Robins, and I liked the way the different Robins were brought into this book.
I really like being in Dick Grayson’s world like this. It does feel too simple to have him fighting crime in another city, and basically kind of doing what Batman does but not in Gotham, but I understand that it may be better that he’s doing this, but not in Gotham.
Nightwing’s adventures seemed a little low stakes at times here in the beginning if memory serves me right.
The philanthropy plot was not compelling to me but I was moved by Alfred’s letter to Dick.
I enjoyed Barbara in this book.
For the villains, I didn’t like Blockbuster but I am intrigued by Heartless.
The twist with one of the politicians grabbed my attention. It still feels like something that wouldn’t be that interesting or shouldn’t be because it’s seems to easy if a twist but I think I’m invested in it.
I plan on reading the next volume!
