Hello, Summer by Mary Kay Andrews

3.0

I read my first Mary Kay Andrews book, Sunset Beach, last summer and loved it. I even read a second one that summer which I liked but not quite as well. Still, she is an author that knows how to write a beach read.

I was excited to pick up Hello, Summer this year and enjoyed following journalist Conley Hawkins as she moves back to her hometown after a promotion goes up in smoke. She ends up working at her family’s newspaper with her sister as her boss. Of course, they don’t see eye to eye on much of anything. Then Conley stumbles onto a car accident that could maybe be more and she and an old friend find themselves embroiled in political scandal and possibly murder.

It was a fun premise which I enjoyed but didn’t totally love. I found Conley to be a bit aggravating and just wanted her to have a conversation with each of her loved ones to clear up all the misunderstandings flying about. Of course, that would have made for a much shorter book! Still, if you are looking for a fun, light summer read, Andrews definitely delivers. I’ll be looking forward to picking up another one of her books next summer!
