The Golden Ass by Apuleius

5.0

Greek and Roman mythology has always fascinated me, and The Golden Ass was no disappointment in providing a rich mythological tale. The English translation by Robert Graves is beautiful and finely detailed. The world in which we are introduced through Lucius' various adventures and trials is one of beauty, violence, wild sex and magic. Ass contains all the tragedy, revenge, grief, action, and debauchery one would expect from a classical tale. Very well done, and ingenious.
