The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie

5.0

One of the best books I've read this year.
Abercrombie has created some spectacular characters. The story is slow in this first book, still very much building up into something larger plot wise, but the characters made every second of it enjoyable. I loved that all the characters are grey, it's always fun when your emotions switch from empathy to hatred over a bad guy. The writing was excellent, with great humour and violence that made me want to shrivel up into a ball. It loved it! Sand Dan Glokta is also a contender for a new all-time-favourite book character. I can't wait to get into the next book in the trilogy.
