In extraordinary times, the ordinary takes on a glow and wonder all it's own.
I liked the premise, execution and concept of this book. I love science fiction and this futuristic retelling of the past certainly held my interest. I enjoyed it but I can't say it's a great book I would recommend. Information about what was going on, came about 80% into the book, which I felt was a bit late and frustrating to the reader. However the quote like one above, did intrigue me. The author was able to keep me wondering what was next, but towards the middle of the book I hoped we would get past that.
The text, also read a little young for the YA that I usually enjoy, but it didn't take away from the story. The notes were good reminders that the setting of the book, seems to be far from the narrative, and explanations of metaphors and TV shows were funny at times. I don't feel like I wasted my time reading, I just wish there was more to ponder about and more great quotes that would inspire more of a emotional reaction. This book did make me feel angst and I was genuinely surprised how the strange event unfolded, but it didn't leave a lasting impression.
It's worth a read if you have an interest in the concept, and I do plan to read the sequel which involves a different time and characters.
