Romancing the Ruby by Melody Goven
3.0
A quick read about a sweet and passionate couple.
Leila is coping with the sudden loss of her parents, when she receives the surprising news that her mother was an estranged princess of Oudh, and now she has the opportunity to accept her position as princess. She is thrown into a new life and isn’t sure who to trust. To obtain a priceless jewel for her country, Leila must go up against someone she’s not too sure about - Marco. Sure, he’s handsome and makes her heart beat faster, but when he suggests a marriage of convenience, does he have ulterior motives?
The writing style of this novel took me a little bit to adjust to, but once I was a few chapters in, the story seemed to flow much better for me. However, there was a bit of whiplash with the story perspectives flipping back and forth from Marco to Leila, sometimes within the same paragraph. I would have also liked to see more passion and more small, intimate moments of love between the main couple - coming in at under 200 pages, this novella seemed a bit rushed and I would have just loved MORE. Also, the epilogue was so, so sweet - make sure you don’t skip it!
With no cliffhangers and a HEA, this was a sweet story I enjoyed.
