Rooney's Normal People is easy to get into and just as easy to finish if you're committed to reading it in a couple of sittings. Compared to the series she helped produce for Hulu and the BBC, something about how the story progresses feels anemic and out of sorts, whereas everything felt fairly sharp and in focus in the series. I'm having a much better time reading Conversations with Friends.
