The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

4.0

4/5 stars!

I remember everyone going crazy over this book about ten years ago and I wanted to join in but I never got around to reading it. I saw this book in the charity shop a few years ago and picked it up and Iv just been in the mood for nostalgia reads. The typical early 2010s twilight era sort of books.

Going into Mara Dyer I had no idea what it was going to be about it’s very ominous and it actually stays like that throughout, even after the ending. I’m getting more of a clearer pictures of what is happening to Mara Dyer but I think it’s going to slowly unravel itself over the next two books. It’s very eerie, mysterious but also quite broody. It’s a book that’s defiantly stuck in the past of the 2010s. The I’m not like other girls trope (which I think the book is slightly self aware of). The very cringe slightly pretentious lines defiantly came from Noah. It’s a very moody slightly cringe at times book. You do find your eyes rolling slightly.

The romance to me was not bad but not great either. Noah and Mara don’t really interest me but I’m not not rooting for them either. I feel chemistry but I’m just not very interested. What really interests me is what the hell is going on? Does she have powers? Is it supernatural? Is it mental health? What does it all mean? Where does it all come from? It’s a very intriguing book. I found it hard it to put down. I actually want to read the next two books on the series because I want to know more about Mara Dyer and her next journey.
