Once Upon a Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber

“Always promise less than you can give, for Fates always take more.
Do not make bargains with more than one Fate.
And, above all, never fall in love with a Fate.”

I had a great time reading this book. It has everything I look for in a fairytale - a bit of silliness, a touch of darkness, and plenty of whimsy. I don't care what anyone thinks, but I'm a big fan of Jacks and I'm willing to defend him. Based on the writing, I truly hope he's the endgame.

“The fates weren't dangerous because they were evil; the fates were dangerous because they couldn't tell the difference between evil and good.”

The plot was so chaotic, and I genuinely didn't know where everything was going and for what reasons most of the time. But I think I kind of liked it for this exact reason? Because it's so chaotic? Now that we have more clues about the gate and the prophecy, the next books should have more substance. But overall, so far it looks like "never let them know your next move".

“I believe there are far more possibilities than happily ever after or tragedy. Every story has the potential for infinite endings.”

I will undoubtedly continue with the next book but certainly not for the plot. This series is not about answering questions or about logic. It is definitely a romantasy and a fairytale, so you're either here for the romance or the vibes. And I'm here for Jacks.
