I wasn’t quite as enthralled as I was with Wideacre and the book is a particular taste. It isn’t just a book set in the times of enclosure and French Revolution. It is so like a book written then. Which is of course Gregory’s intent. The whole project originally born from a phd on fiction of the period. It’s repetitive in places though that is period style appropriate and I imagine quite consciously done. I did however care deeply about the characters. Absolutely loathed Richard.
