I had previously read The Hunting Party so this book is actually the second that I have read by the author. It has also been a little while since I have read a crime novel so it was this was actually a very enjoyable read from that perspective - almost like picking up a book that you have loved in the past and going in for a re-read. I also read this on a rainy day while under a heated blanket and with numerous cups of tea - so all of these factors may also contribute to my enjoyment.

Overall this was a very good crime novel - it almost felt closer to an Agatha Christie "whodunnit" for the modern age - but one where you don't actually know who the victim is. The book was very much character driven which I very much enjoy in a crime novel, and it didn't include much of the gruesome violence that many crime novels have. I would say that the book was fairly predictable, and I pretty much guessed most of the detail, but that does not take away from the overall enjoyment. I wish that there was a bit more of an epilogue, as the book pretty much finished with the discovery of the body, and felt like a bit of a sudden conclusion. But overall I actually read the book quite quickly, and would recommend this to those who enjoy a good crime book. I would especially recommend this book to those readers who do not read the genre much and who would like to try it out, as it quite a light easy read.
