I was honestly surprised with how much I actually enjoyed this book. The movie based off this book is one of my absolute favorites so I was excited to finally read the book because they are always better. I was shocked to see just how much they are different. This story is wonderfully written and isn’t slow at all. I will say I was a tad unhappy with the ending.
for one thing it felt incredibly rushed. I didn’t like how Tristran just accepted his mother as his mother with no questioning or emotion, given his father did tell him who his real mother was but it still felt played down. Secondly while I was happy that the romance stayed true as it does In the film, it felt too played down. There was no real build up in the middle that led up to them getting together so it felt just meh.
overall it was a very good read. I’m not usually much of a fantasy reader but this one wasn’t too difficult to get through.
