Homesick for Another World
by Ottessa Moshfegh
I didn’t realize why the title was Homesick for Another World until the very last chapter, which was so sweet yet devastating without even trying too hard. For most of the book I was excited to be over with it. I just thought that they were all sort of the same layout- compulsive liars meandering through their sad adult lives. But the whole point was that none of them were meant for this world. None of them seemed to fit in, and their stories didn’t really end except for the last chapter. Were some of the characters on a kill list? I didn’t think that any of the stories were connected but now I want to reread it. Maybe I’m overthinking it… however, even after this revelation, I still didn’t enjoy most of the stories save chapters 2, 10&11, and 15.
