Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

I am in love with/losing my mind over this book. It follows Alex, the son of the President of the US and Henry, Prince of England. This is the type of enemies to lovers book that I crave.

As a poli sci major, it fulfills my love of policy and political intrigue. As a queer person, it fulfills my love of reading queer literature. As a person if color it fulfills my love of having people of color as main characters. And as a human, it fulfills my love of happy endings.

Where this book falls short, in my opinion, is that it falls into the tendency that queer media does in that it focuses a lot on the trauma of being gay. We meet a side character in the first few chapters, and at nearly the end of the book he reemerges for us to learn about his trauma. Once, just once I would love to find something focusing on queer characters that doesn't involve trauma or coming out.

That being said, I did absolutely adore this book. And like Alex's mom said, I hope you find your forever. 5/5
