A Nameless Witch by A. Lee Martinez

3.0

I loved A Company of Ogres and Too Many Curses. A Nameless Witch comes in 3rd or 4th. Lots of great names, good laughs and entertaining characters (a demon duck, a Mr. Potato Head style-ogre, some funny bridge trolls, a black White Knight, and the list goes on). However, this book was more a love story than a fantasy story and a little sappy. I also had some issues with Martinez's use of magic. It can be a really difficult concept to master and it definitely follows rules. Martinez's magic was very nebulous - "she used magic to heal his wounds". Huh. But what exactly did she do?

All in all, I think I like Martinez's magic-free fantasy characters better.
