This is a stunning graphic novel. The main character, Grant McCay, is largely unlikable and seemingly pessimistic. But he's also incredibly remorseful and protective of his children. This first arc had such tender moments of self-sacrifice from more than one character... It gave this fast-paced, action-packed Sci-Fi story some incredible depth and tenderness.

When McCay and his science team finish developing a pillar they've spent a decade working on, Grant brings his children by for a viewing of the dimension-hopping portal device.  But someone has sabotaged the unit and McCay, his children, his unsuspecting team, and their grumpy, mistrusting overseer, Kadir, are all pulled into the pillar and spit out in another incredibly dangerous dimension. Stop after stop, the team barely stays alive, barely stays together, but is ultimately rebuilt stronger, if not more hardened, with each new encounter.

The art and coloring are absolutely gorgeous. Some of the best, most inventive story panels and layouts I've seen in someetime. This was an exciting story with unpredictable twists I'm still thinking about. It's wild to me that this story has been out for as long as it has and is still somewhat of an undiscovered gem. I loved the whole ride and can't wait to start the next volume.
