Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop by Hwang Bo-Reum

4.0

A quietly profound hug of a book that explores how to find and measure happiness through a series of beautifully calm vignettes.

Whilst others have reported finding this slow I loved the pacing of this book and revelled in hearing about the mundanities of running an indie cafe & bookshop. Honestly loved hearing how to make the perfect coffee tbh.

Despite it's anti-grind/down with the Girl Boss sentiment I didn't find it preachy or naïve. Certainly, its acknowledgement of having to still operate within a capitalist system was what kept the eye-rolls at bay.

Not for those who enjoy pacey plot led thrillers but for a slow January return to work it's a wonderful pick ✨
