The 13-Storey Treehouse by Andy Griffiths
3.0

I picked this up for my almost 5 yr old to see what all the hype was about. He loved the anarchic nature of the story, the ridiculous inventions and situations and the outlandish nature of it all. I have to say it did a little less for me but I still found it entertaining, particularly appreciating the meta nature of the tale along with the brazenly cheeky use of repeated images and pages to fill the space. They know the value of holding a visual joke for a loooong time, something that books don't usually get away with.

Perhaps some of the violence and language is a little much for an almost 5 yr old but I think the expected age is probably a year or two ahead. It's certainly less staid than the Faraway Tree.

We've already started the next one.
