The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson

5.0

This was my introduction to Sanderson. I hadn't read Mistborn or his other bits and pieces, but I have heard so much ranting and raving about the Stormlight Archive, I decided to grab the box and leave it there until interest was more sparked.

Immediately after finishing The Way of Kings, I knew I was a huge Sanderson fan, and would go on to read the entirety of his works. Yes, the death of the king plot is interesting, and the conflict that sets up the moving forward of the plot works fairly well with the bad-guys being sufficiently bad. But what really drew me in was the characterization.

Sanderson makes such interesting, individualistic characters. They fell more human than that of what his peers create. I think that is the highest praise that I can give. If you want to learn how to write good characters, read the series.
