Ijeoma talks about racism’s FAQs in a candid and direct way, interweaving personal and historical narratives with her powerful voice, without being preachy or condescending. She sympathizes that it’s hard to get right, and even she has gotten it wrong, but despite the room for error, these conversations are absolutely necessary and can’t go ignored any more if we don’t want racism to fester. The point I like most is that institutionalized racism is the most dangerous force, the one we have to ACT against, and to not necessarily waste our energy on individual racists who’s minds can’t be changed. I practically have every page bookmarked.
