The Lottery and Other Stories by Shirley Jackson
5.0
This is a lottery no one wants to win
Beautifully written- short but brimming with superstition, ritual, and an entire history in 30 short pages.
The unquestioning compliance with tradition/orders is relatable and dangerous. Especially when I realized this was written shortly after the end of WW2
I'm a sucker for the capacity for cruelty in a small town so I highly recommend this read
