2023 Look, it’s autumn and I’m out of audible credits until Oct 13. The way Goodreads catalogues editions is annoying; I’m listening to the audiobooks… though I do have the next MinaLima book on preorder.

2022 re-read:

I know Rowling is hella problematic. It's upsetting in ways that hit pretty close to home. I don't want to get all blow-hardy about how to separate the art from the artist because I really don't have any answers.

I received the first two illustrated MinaLima hardcover editions of book one and two as gifts. They're gorgeous. I also need a comfort listen, so I'm listening to the audiobooks I already own.

2019 review:

Spoilers, just in case you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t read this yet.

Just listening to the audiobook again. Here’s a plot hole that I smile at every time:

The stone was safely ensconced in the magical Mirror of Erised. ‘The man with two faces’ would have been stuck staring at it for ages, unable to get it out. Harry didn’t need to go down there at all. By doing so, he actually put the stone at bigger risk by ending up with it in his pocket.

This listen, I heard for the first time, Jim Dale stumbling over Snape’s name, though I can’t remember which chapter. Amazed, as I’d never heard that before. Had to rewind a few times to make sure I’d heard right. It’s there! Wish I’d noted where. I couldn’t find a list of audiobook mistakes anywhere, which kind of surprised me.

Also, listened to a little sample of the Stephen Fry version you can get on Pottermore, and I much prefer this one. Is it because it’s the one I’ve listened to first (and repeatedly), I wonder?

A final sidebar: Did you know Jim Dale played the villainous snake oil Dr in the original Pete’s Dragon movie? What a gift he is. <3
