“That's the funny thing about humans, Lock. Just because something is impossible, it doesn't stop us trying.”

I've been meaning to read In The Blink Of An Eye ever since it was first published, and I'm still not sure why it took me this long to finally pick it up. I've heard so many great things about this series, and I do always love a detective thriller that can provide an unique angle. And what is more unique than having what is basically an AI detective work along with our new main character?! In The Blink Of An Eye turned out to be a fantastic start of what I already know will be a favorite detective series, and I'm still kicking myself for not picking it up sooner. While I can't say that I'm a fan of AI, I do love how it is incorporated into the plot here. AIDE Lock made for such a fascinating character, and the clash between AI and human made for some pretty interesting situations. The case itself was fascinating as well and had many twists and turned that took me by surprise. Our new main character DCS Kat Frank makes for an interesting lead; sure, she is flawed like most of the detective leads out there, but there is also something about her that makes it easy to warm up to her. Together with AIDE Lock they form an unlikely pair, and it is one that I will be happy to see develop and grow in the future. The rest of the small team add some interesting dynamics to the mix as well, although it would have been nice to have at least one member without a complicated background... Either way, it was nothing that impacted negatively on my reading experience, and I had a brilliant time reading this book. Guess who is going to try and pick up book two ASAP?! Afterwards the long wait for book three will begin... Seriously, such long gaps between UK and US releases should be illegal.
