I don't dislike this book, but out of everything I have read from Vonnegut, it's probably my least favorite so far. What I enjoy is the apocalyptic element and some of the ideas he came up for this society. A lot of those were clever and thought-provoking - the new middle names and extended family elements were very interesting. It, of course, has some funny moments, so that helps me land a 3/5 stars.

Unfortunately, I didn't really enjoy the main characters, and I found the overuse of "Hi ho" and "yes" annoying. I think that was intentional, but nonetheless, I didn't really enjoy reading it as much due to that. The story itself also just was not my favorite from Vonnegut. I honestly liked his intro more than the rest of the book. I just never found myself all that excited to keep reading, which is how I usually feel with a Vonnegut book.

Vonnegut himself gave his book a D (tied for lowest score along with Wanda June). I am with him there. It's not junk, but I would hate for anyone to start with this if they weren't already a fan of his. Just not his best work, and one that I think you could probably skip if you're reading through his works.
