🍰I LOVED the themes in this book, which were so unique and yet I think so needed in the realm of Christian fiction - and Christian fiction is uniquely positioned to specifically address these areas where Christians by the grace of God have the ability to shine the brightest. This book focuses heavily on the theme of reconciliation between generations, of accepting your predecessors with all their good, their bad, and their ugly. This is a much needed message today and it spoke to me very clearly.

🍰I also loved how in the process of learning to forgive and heal, our heroine, Nikki, discovers the wealth of her heritage, a wealth that had somehow been forgotten along the way. This, again, is such a valuable lesson for this moment in history. There is so much we gained from previous generations, so much they gave to us, and everything they were makes us who we are. Such a beautiful aspect of this story, and I love how the family recipes were woven into the story.

🍰My primary complaint is that the story moved a little too slowly and did not pull me in. There wasn't as much of a plot as there was an exploration of a concept, which was good, but the story and the characters were not super compelling to me, personally.

🍰I highlighted so many things. SO much beautiful truth here.

🍰I really loved the character of Aunt Emma, how she was "offscreen" the whole time, but her wit and wisdom and charm pervaded the whole story and was the thread between all the characters. That was really quite well done and one of my favorite parts of the whole book.

🍰Overall, a fantastic read. If you find it slow, just keep reading, and savor it for what it is. It's definitely worth the read and will speak to your heart, even if the story isn't one that keeps you turning pages and waiting breathlessly for the next moment.
