Daughter of No Worlds opens with Tisannah, a slave who has magical abilities, as she tries to buy her freedom from her cruel master. Through a series of events, she escapes to a new land where she tries to receive training to become better at her powers as her ultimate goal is to go back and save her friends from their slavery as well. She’s paired with a grumpy teacher named Max and through trials and long days and nights spent in each others company, a begrudging friendship blossoms. But war is coming to the land, so how will Tisannah and Max play a part in it?
I really liked this book. It gave similar vibes to Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas. The whole slave to assassin/badass is there. I liked the character development of both Tisannah and Max, but especially Max. As you get further into the story, his past is revealed and you start to understand why he is the way he is and it makes his character more amenable. I love the tropes of found family and little bit of the grumpy/sunshine. The spice is not a lot but it’s good and fits the story well. Overall, I’m interested in the story enough to go on to book 2!
