Forever Pucked by Helena Hunting
3.0

So, I liked it, but I didn't love it. Violet's still snarky, Alex's still sexy, but something was just off for me with this one. Almost like it was trying too hard.

The story definitely got better as it went along, but the beginning, for me, was kind of cliche boring. It starts out with Alex and Violet getting into disagreements about her continuing to work, and her feelings about not wanting to be one of "those women" who don't work. Man, that stuff really bugs me. Why so judgmental? You never hear men talking about "those men". Men are allowed to make whatever decisions for their lives that they want, but for some reason, we group women by their decisions and find them lacking because of them. I hate that.

Anyway, luckily, Ms.Hunting fooled me on the direction of the book, and we moved on to other things.

From the middle onward, the focus is on Alex and
Spoiler his recovery from the accident.
While it was exciting at first, it just kind of dragged for me after a few chapters. Just not a lot going on; the same conversations rehashed over and over. Alex worrying about his career; Violet worrying about not getting enough sex. And then of course, all the complaining about the moms trying to push Violet into a big wedding. Again.

I don't know...it just felt like there wasn't anything new here. At least Violet and Alex got married, but that was about it. And that was done in like 2 pages. I guess overall I'd say this felt more like a novella that got stretched out to fill more pages to make it into a longer book. Perhaps if it had been cut down, it would have felt as fun as the earlier books.

I'm still looking forward to continuing the series, but just not super thrilled with this one.
