Take Me Home Tonight by Erika Kelly

3.0

3 stars.

This took me a bit of time to get through, a full month, and it shouldn't have. Normally I can read a contemporary romance fairly quickly, with this one the two MC's annoyed me so much, Calix much more than Mimi, that I had to set it down and read other stuff for a while.

As with the other two books, I did have similar problems with the writing style. It was difficult to figure out at times when something was going on or when time passed and we're no longer in the scene we were in before.

I never thought I would dislike a character who loved his family as much as Calix did his family but his love for his family, and I can't believe I'm saying this, it hindered his character. While the feelings he had for them were understandable and I knew why he felt how he did, I still couldn't like Calix. There were so many times that Calix just up and left Mimi, put someone else (even non-family) ahead of Mimi. One incident really bothered me and that was shortly after Mimi told him about how her dad was really never focused on her, ever unless she was doing something he wanted her to do, and then the phone rings and he does exactly what her dad would do, and that's forget she was even there. Then after
SpoilerGus was in the hospital he was a jerk to Mimi, he turned to Shay (who someone called, probably Calix), and wanted her to make Mimi leave.
And he never really told Shay to back off, he kind of would but then he would backtrack and let her act as she did when they were dating or both were single.

With Mimi, it annoyed me how she kept butting into people's business. I understood she only wanted to help but she just met the Bourbon's, it's a little too soon to suggest huge changes for them. Not saying she was wrong in what she was saying but it was done too soon.

This is one romance where I did not want these two together at the end. I wanted Mimi to find someone who put her first. And I wanted Calix to be miserable and watch her be happy with someone else.

Yea, I was not a fan of this one.
