The Book Eaters by Sunyi Dean
5.0

I didn’t imagine that of like this book so much but here we are with a five star rating!

The concept of the book eaters has me captivated since before I read a single word but the story kept me wanting to read more. I appreciated the thought provoking characters in this book. Everyone is morally gray and doing terrible things but some have good reasons that makes you question would you have done the same?

I we have Devon from the past, who is a book eater, going through life as a woman in a community who’s birth rate is low so there are rules in place for women to help each family (house) reproduce. We also have Devon is present time who has escaped the families. The writing between present vs past is something I enjoyed and found myself enjoying the past the most. In the scenes in the past, we learn about book eaters and how Devon became the person she is today.

I’m a big romance lover but I’m happy this book didn’t jump too much into romance. The genre of the book isn’t romance so I’m happy it wasn’t a huge factor.

I appreciated some characters and even the “villain” I liked but towards the end just felt sorry for. It shows how’s circumstance and fear can warp someone so much that identifying yourself as being good for one thing can be your destruction.

I just really loved this book and I think everyone should at least give it a read!
