kimferm 's review for:
The Queen of the Tearling
by Erika Johansen
Apparently I'm going to disagree with a majority of reviewers and say that I absolutely loved this book. Publishers likened it to the Hunger Games and it wasn't at all like that. They also compared it to the Game of Thrones, which I have never read. It was a book all its own. Sort of a dystopian world with no love story to be seen. This book takes place in the future but technology has been lost so it has a very primitive and medieval feel to it. Kelsea, the heroine, was a hidden princess raised by foster parents and trained to be queen. When she is 19, she is thrust in to queen good and immediately steps in to make changes for the Tear. This first book chronicles her first few acts as queen on her path to changing the Tear history. I thought the book was lacking a bit of development and was all it of action. This kept the fast pace but in a trilogy, there should be a bit more pacing. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
