I loved Jake as a character, and he was really fun to learn about. The concept of his powers were unique and fun. Sawyer is written in a way that you don't root for him, but you feel sad of his situation a lot. I thought the premise was really interesting and truly thought-provoking. It made you think of the current true horrors in the world. It's truly heartbreaking in the novel and in real life. The novel was really hard to read at times, and I recommend reading the content warnings. I thought the horror was suffocating and truly felt scary at times! I really liked the relationships in the novel, and I wish it was a bit longer to explore them more. Regardless, I enjoyed this read as a great start to the Halloween season!
